Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this paper was to review the differential
diagnosis of the acute abdomen and emphasise the greater
importance of history and examination over investigations in
early diagnosis. After resuscitation, an accurate history will frequently
point to the diagnosis, and, the ability to identify the
presence of peritoneal inflammation probably has the greatest
influence on the final surgical decision.
